By Rugby Ohio, 05/23/17, 8:30AM EDT

The Dayton Northern Force Middle School Rugby team is a first year tackle rugby team based in Montgomery Country. They are comprised of eight Northmont MS and one Morton MS students.  On Saturday the team traveled to the NFL Hall of Fame Youth Football Fields in Canton Ohio to participate in the Rugby Ohio Middle School State Championship Tournament. (Heading in to the tournament the Force had an undefeated regular season standing at 8-0)

The Force went 2-0 in pool play beating Dover 36-14 and the Cincinnati Rebels 17-7, giving them the 2nd overall seed in tournament play, which would align them against the Columbus Crusaders in the Semi-Finals. The Force had beaten the Crusaders during the regular season 21-19 and they would go on to win again 34-10 pushing them in to the State Championship match.

In the finals they would take on the Highland Buzzards, the overall #1 seed having won both their pool play games handily (67-0 and 40-5).  But just as they had done all year, the Force came out strong and would bring home the State Championship, winning the match 20-5. With this win it would not only give them a State Championship but an undefeated season, finishing the year with a perfect 12-0 record.
