2009 State Championships

 

Dear Coach, Player, Parent and Rugby Enthusiast:

We are pleased to announce the 2009 Ohio High School Men’s Rugby State Championship will

be held this May 22 and 23 at Memorial Park in Obetz, Ohio. This year’s championship is hosted by the RugbyOhio and the City of Obetz.

From Cleveland to Cincinnati, qualifying teams from across the state representing several schools will participate in qualifying matches beginning at 6pm on Friday, May 22, with the final rounds to be played the next day. Team registration begins at 4pm with the first games beginning at 6 p.m.

As a mid-day break in play on Saturday for the high school players, a Rookie Rugby clinic will be given for 5-15 year olds. Tournament admission will be $3 for all non-players, with all proceeds going to fund future Ohio Rugby development. Concessions will be available for purchase on the tournament grounds, and tournament t-shirts and other items will be for sale as well. Several collegiate and senior men’s rugby teams will also be in attendance and will be available to answer questions about rugby opportunities available throughout the state. Players and coaches will also have access to an Athletic Trainer services from Ohio State University.

In addition to the tournament, the Annual Team Awards Ceremony will be held on Saturday, May 23 following the final game.

Included along with this letter is information about the Village of Obetz and Columbus, with the locations and contact information for hotels near the tournament site. FRIDAY:

Admission: $3 per day or $5 for the weekend.

Team registration @ the Fields (time TBD for each team)

Each player to show proof of school ID, License (Max. 25 players per team)

Coach to show RugbyOhio registration for above players. Coach will receive info packet containing: Wrist bands for banquet for 22players + 2 coaches, Game schedule for tournament with times & fields, Schedule for weekend, Copy of rules / regulations and procedures for event.

5:15 pm - Opening Ceremonies – Singing of National Anthem as official opening of tournament.

o Round 1, Game 1 & 2 : (20 min halves + 5min half time) 5:30 pm, Field 1 & 2.
o Round 1, Game 3 & 4 : (20min halves + 5min half time) 6:30 pm, Field 1 & 2.

Social for Parents, Coaches, Guests TBA

SATURDAY:

o Round 2, Game 1 & 2 : (20min halves + 5min half time) 9:00 am, Field 1 & 2.
o Round 2, Game 3 & 4 : (20min halves + 5min half time) 10:00 am, Field 1 & 2.

o Break : Rookie Rugby Clinic for all kids, Fan Zone, National Guard activities.

o Round 3, 7&8 th and 5&6 th place : (25min halves + 5min half time) 2:00 am, Field 1 & 2
o Round 3, 3&4 th place : (25min halves + 5min half time) 3:00 am, Field 1.

o National Anthem : 4:00 am, Field 1

o Round 3, STATE FINAL GAME : (30 min halves + 5min half time) 4:15 am, Field 1.
